Staying Cool
Most households can lower the cost of their cooling through good insulation, external shading and keeping doors, windows and blinds shut on hot days.
There are a lot of easy things you can do that don't cost anything or will pay for themselves over time through lower bills and better comfort.
What you can do now:
What you can do this year:
Choose an energy efficient system
When purchasing a new cooling system, choose the most energy efficient model for your needs. Consider and compare:
- attributes of different cooling systems
- energy efficiency ratings
- purchase, installation and long-term running costs
- unit life expectancy.
When buying an air conditioner, enlist the services of a qualified technician to ensure your unit is properly sized and installed for your home or building. A unit that is too large will not only cost you more up front, but will actually work less efficiently, costing you more to operate over its lifetime.
