Photovoltaic energy systems (solar electricity)

The Photovoltaic Rebate Programme (PVRP) provides cash rebates for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems on homes, schools and community use buildings.

The Photovoltaic Rebate Program makes the installation of a solar electric system affordable. The program is funded by the Australian Government and administered by The Australian Greenhouse Office in Canberra.

Conditions

Detailed information about rebate conditions and eligibility is available on the website for the Department for Climate Change. Key points include:

  • the rebate is available for both grid-connected and stand-alone systems
  • the minimum system size or addition to an existing system is 450W
  • the system must be installed by an accredited installer
  • the installation must be at your principal place of residence
  • major equipment items in the installation must be new (not second-hand)
  • a Certificate of Electrical Safety must be issued for most installations.

Amount

For new systems, the rebate is calculated at $8 per installed watt capacity (up to a maximum of $8000).
