Photovoltaic energy systems (solar electricity)
The Photovoltaic Rebate Program makes the installation of a solar electric system affordable. The program is funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA).
Conditions
Detailed information about rebate conditions and eligibility is available through DEWHA. Key points include:
- rebates are available for the purchase and installation of major equipment items.
- equipment must be new and not second-hand.
- residential rebates are for photovoltaic systems that are connected to the electricity grid or are very close to the grid.
- any system eligible for a rebate under the Renewable Remote Power Generation Programme is ineligible for the Photovoltaic Rebate Programme; applicants should discuss which rebate to apply for with an accredited designer and installer.
- the person who carries out the installation must be accredited for design and installation of photovoltaic systems.
Amount
For new systems, the rebate is calculated at $8 per installed watt capacity (up to a maximum of $8000).
Quick Action: Lighting
Replace conventional globes with compact fluorescent light bulbs and you'll save around $9 each time.
