Star ratings

Most major household services and appliances now carry Energy Rating labels. These include televisions, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, room air conditioners, gas space heaters, gas ducted heating furnaces and gas hot water systems.

In general an increase of one star will give energy savings of 10 to 30% depending on the type of appliance

Every Energy Rating label has between one and six stars marked on it. The more stars you see, the less energy you use, and the more money you will save.

In general an increase of one star will give energy savings of 10 to 30% depending on the type of appliance. For many common appliances the savings are much greater than 10%, e.g. 2-door fridges (23%), TVs (20%), washing machines (27%), dishwashers (30%), clothes dryers (15%), and freezers (17 to 20%).
